Tutorial: Play Japanese BL games on English PCs

Most of us English speakers do not use Japanese versions of PC operating systems which these games are meant for… but that doesn’t mean we can’t play them :3

Configuring Window XP

STEP 1: Install Japanese Language Option

1. Go to the “Control Panel”
2. Open “Regional and Language Options”
3. Click on the “Languages” tab
4. Check the “Install files for East Asian languages” check box
5. Display Dialog -> OK
6. Click the “OK” button on the “Regional and Language Options” dialog
7. Insert Windows CD-ROM
8. Copy required files
9. Restart PC

STEP 2: Display non-Unicode Language and Regional Option Settings

1. Go to the “Control Panel”
2. Open “Regional and Language Options”
3. Click on the “Regional Options” tab
4. Select “Japanese” from the pull-down menu at the “Standards and Formats” section
5. Click on the “Advanced” tab
6. Select “Japanese” from the pull-down menu at the “Language for non-Unicode Programs” section
7. Click the “OK” button on the “Regional and Language Options” dialog
8. Restart PC

Additional Setting: AppLocale

Some Japanese version PC games may also have a region checker.
This can be bypassed by installing the Microsoft AppLocale program.

1. Download AppLocale from Microsoft
2. Install AppLocale
3. Launch AppLocale
4. Select game application
5. Select Japanese language
6. Finish AppLocale

Configuring Window Vista

I’ll try to do a Windows Vista version when I have the time. But it shouldn’t deviate too far from their instructions.
