Yet another Japanese anime adaptation of Chinese classic Romance of the Three Kingdoms 三國演義, written by Luo Guanzhong (羅貫中) in the 14th century. This time, it is the story of one of the warlords, Cao Cao 曹操, a brilliant and ruthless leader. The anime will be based on the award winning manga, Souten Kouro 蒼天航路 created by Li Hagin (李學仁) and King Gonta (王欣太).
And like… wowo Cute Rikuson (Lu Xun from Koutetsu Sangokushi) Mamochan 宮野真守 is voicing Sou Sou (Cao Cao) this time! Seki Tomokazu (関 智一) will voice his main rival from the three kingdoms, Ryubii (Liu Bei 劉備) Awesome! :D
The anime will premiere on 7 April 2009. That’s an additional period/historical anime to look forward to this April along with Sengoku Basara ^_^

The soundtrack seems good and I’ll add more comments after I’ve watched it. Looks very promising from the staff line-up tho’.
Comments: I lost interest after the first few episodes cos it was far from what I expected. But give it a try and see if you like it.

Yeah I have high hopes for this one too ^^ I think it’ll be even more awesome as the story progresses.
I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH. I really hope the fansubbers stick with this one.
Yeah… was Sanzo in Japanese Saiyuki stalked by demons for his flesh cos I can’t seem to recall it :O
Well, that’s a pity (no narration in PSP) :D cos it would’ve been funny to hear it.
Oh yeah i know about tht ginseng-child. Even thou a child size, that certainly a big sized ginseng. LOL~
Eating the priest oso give immortality, that’s why the group being chased by etc etc demons on their journey to the west.
Well, DW in PSP version is bit different. No narration…so no ‘Cow Pee’ (yucks)
See u in couple days…more like a week actually.
My dad doesn’t like Japanese series.
I think i’ve seen that saiyuki somewhere, but can’t remember exactly. probably from a VHS video in my cousin’s house and no subs too.
Certainly nothing like saiyuki of kazuya minekura version. (Genjyo sanzo hmmm….)
I think your title translation is okay. Hmm does Ginseng considered as fruit?
I’ll let you know my impression after playing it. There is also Dynasty Warrior 2, right?
Hehe the Chinese version is “classic” so they’re true to the original story. No improvisations lol~
The ginseng fruit in the story is not the normal ginseng that we know. It grows on trees and is shaped like a tiny child. But it is a fruit. Eating one ginseng fruit can give you extra 10 thousand years of life (or more?). I can’t remember exactly how many years haha… long enough to be considered an immortal.
I’m not sure how many volumes of Dynastiy Warriors has been released for PSP. I saw one last time but was unsuccessful in persuading my friend to get it when she was buying her PSP lol~
English. but since we’re not speaking english tht “Cow Pee’ could go unnoticed.
Have you seen DW english ver. review? I’m sure there are other mistakes since you said the english is worse.
Ah yes, that’s why to me Zhuge Liang is Kong Ming.
My dad watched Yami no Matsuei episode 1. He realize it was far from his expectation of underworld detective story haa haa.
He also enjoyed live action TV series of stuffs like ‘return of the condor heroes, impeccable twins’ etc etc
The pronunciation of the names in the game was a gripe hehe. Other than that, it was the emotionless reading of the scripts. But game play was good and as usual, so no complaints there. I didn’t hunt out English reviews, so I’m not sure.
Yeah, martial arts heroes themed TV series were really common and popular then :D
The few animations my Dad watched were the Saiyuki movies, not the Japanese version but classic ones produced in China. I loved them as a kid too. Take a quick look ^^. In Chinese but there’re no subtitles tho’ Mostly are based on Goku as the lead. Pardon my weak title translations :P All are highly recommended tho’
1) 孙悟空大闹天空 The Monkey King wreaks havoc in the Heavenly Palace
2) 孙悟空三打白骨精 The Monkey King and the White Skeleton Demon
3) 孙悟空偷吃人参果 The Monkey King and the Ginseng Fruit
At first i didn’t know three kingdoms is ‘san gou yan yi’ coz local chinese dialect makes it known as ‘sam kok’ ha-ha
I read in local newspaper that 三國演義 have many fans in here. Some of them also play Dynasty Warrior but definitely no ‘cow pee’ mentioned.
I think my dad is one of 三國演義 readers but i’m pretty sure the anime version wouldn’t please him. He’s so not into anime unless meitantei conan movie. XD
What is the language of Dynasty Warrior games in Indo? Japanese? Cos you’ll only get to experience the shock of “Cow Pee” if you’re playing US translated version. Lol~ “San Guo Yan Yi” is the “official” Chinese pronunciation ^^ Dialects will sound different hehe. My dad loves Chinese history too XD but I don’t think our parents would ever get into anime. If I remember correctly, he enjoyed the live-action TV series of the classic that was produced in China many years ago.
@akiyama: phew~ had a long and busy day :P I think the voice actor probably felt strange reading his script too. I wonder why they don’t bother doing a bit of research on the pronunciations before they dubbed the game =_=;;;
The movie reviews said the show as entertaining but die-hard fans of the classic would flip over the creative liberties taken over plot treatment.
@imbeleth: Yep it does! Definitely something to look forward to! You study Chinese literature in school? XD
DEFINITELY watching this one. And it has absolutely nothing to do with what I was forced to learn in school. Chinese classics. Urgh… the art looks great isn’t it! =D
ROFL! Cow Pee….hilarious! and stupid indeed.
Interesting to see how the names changed into japanese pronunciation.
I missed it too. will probably buy the DVD for the sake of Takeshi and Tony Leung.
hohoho since history is my fave subject i’ll be following this anime closely.
it’s always interesting for me to see interpretation of San Guo Yan Yi characters.
Do you watch the recent movie Red Cliff?
Ah, glad you inform me that Sou Sou is Cao Cao..otherwise i’ll be wandering who the heck is he. XD
When I first watched Koutetsu Sangokushi, it also took me a while to figure out who’s who since the names were pronounced in Japanese :P Now I’m pretty ok with ’em lol~ Have you played the US version of Dynasty Warriors? The English was worse. My bro and I nearly died from laughter when we heard the voice actor say, “I am Cow Pee…” (Cao Pi is Cao Cao’s eldest son) OMG. He pronounced Cao as “Cow”! *dead*
Anyway, I added a trailer. It looks pretty good! I didn’t watch Red Cliff… was kinda busy so I missed it. How about you? Takeshi Kaneshiro makes a rather handsome Zhuge Liang (Kong Ming / Koumei) keke.
